Fundamentals of Models and Design Process

This free online model and design process course teaches you the basic principles and processes essential for developing interactive products. This course gives you some great insights into the basic concepts in interaction interface as well as the mental, system, and represented models used in interaction design. By the end of the course, you will be much better equipped to participate in the research phase of the goal-directed design process

What you will learn

  • Interaction Models and Paradigms - Learning Outcomes

  • Goals in Interaction Design

  • Interaction Models

  • Interaction Models and Paradigms - Lesson Summary

  • Basic Concepts in Interaction Design

  • Models in Interaction Design

  • Interaction Paradigms

This course will begin by introducing you to the concept of interaction design. You will learn about the relationship between interface and interaction. You will be introduced to user interface, interaction as reciprocity and man-machine communication. You will also be able to explain the importance of goals in interaction design. You will learn about the process of designing digital products, knowing the users better and the reason digital products fail. You will be familiar with user goals, interaction design mandates and the responsibilities of the teams.

The course then explains the use of different models in interaction design. These include the implementation or system model mechanism for interactive products, algorithms and the mental model. You will be able to explain the Yoked State Space hypothesis. Furthermore, you will learn about the use of mental models in interaction design. You will gain understanding of the various paradigms of interaction design which include the dimensions for evaluating interaction models, the interaction paradigm and ubiquitous computing. You will get familiar with attentive environments and transparent computing.

Finally, you will learn about the goal-directed design process of interaction design. The research phase of the goal-directed design process in interaction design will be made clear. You will learn about user interviews, designers' intent, user observation, contextual inquiry, master-apprentice model, interpretation and recommendations. You will learn how to identify candidates and learn about the question types. Start your next learning journey, today.
